Architecture and Design Charter School
Founded by the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects as its Legacy 2000 Project, The Charter High School for Architecture and Design is recognized as the first charter high school for architecture and design in the nation. Design is central to the curriculum, and is used as the instrument to help students develop creative problem-solving skills, and visual and spatial literacy competencies. CHAD is a public, independent tuition-free high school located one block from Independence Hall in downtown Philadelphia. In addition to the standard core curriculum, CHAD introduces students to the theories and practices of architecture, design and construction, the building industry and related community issues, integrating them thematically into a rigorous academic high school curriculum.
